Activities

We are located within the boundaries of the PERIGORD-LIMOUSIN NATIONAL PARK and the setting is very rural.  Most activities are based on the great outdoors, although there are many cultural events as the French love the arts.

SPORTS:

Horse riding from the local stables is only 2km away, and the supervised rides pass through the village on most days.

Fishing is superb in Limousin with many good rivers and lakes having public access, subject to payment of a small fee for a fishing pass for the period of the holiday, currently 30 euros.  Fly fishing and coarse fishing are both available locally.

Golf - there are four courses available within 30 minutes drive and we can make suitable arrangements for golfing parties, tee-off times etc by request.

Swimming/watersports  From July 2005 the property has a private pool for the use of guests.  Additionally the area is very well organised  -  the 20 acre resort lake at St. Mathieu (10 minutes away) has a sandy beach with supervised swimming.  It is in a wonderful tree-lined setting with restaurant, bar, tennis/volleyball courts and playground.   There are two other swimming lakes nearby and an outdoor lido at Chalus (10 minutes).  Further afield at St. Pardoux lake there are extensive watersport facilities.

Go Karting - we are lucky to have an international Go-Kart circuit within 15 minutes drive, which welcomes both novices and experienced drivers.

Cycling/Walking - this area is ideal for both.  We can arrange bicycle hire and the GR4 (national footpath) passes close to the village.  There are many organised "randonees" during the summer season, usually culminating in a BBQ - a lovely way to meet the locals at leisure.

LEISURE:

In France it is very difficult to separate eating and drinking from leisure events, since the locals plan one to go with the other - the welcome in Limousin is second to none........

For the children - There are theme parks, and a zoo near Limoges, velorail, steam railways, farm visits and many gardens in the area.  Regular fairs and other outdoor events are specifically aimed at youngsters, including the annual four day fete when a local village turns into carnival - the largest event of its kind in Limousin.

Historic Sites - We are on the "Route Richard Coeur de Lion" (Richard the Lionheart) as this area was very much his homeland and where he eventually met his end.  There are many monuments to see in the area with some wonderfully preserved castles.  During the summer there are regular mediaeval fetes/banquets which really bring things to life!

Porcelain - Kaolin was first discovered near Limoges, and the art of porcelain making is maintained as a major business in the area.  Organised visits to see the production processes are freely available.

Culture - the French love music and art in all forms, and there are many reasonably priced musical events, both contemporary and classical, in the area.  There are annual music festivals for Bands, Folklore, Classical and many more.  The beautiful city of Limoges has theatre and cinemas as you would expect.  There are too many exhibitions to mention and most villages have something of interest in the local Town Hall.
